In a recently resurfaced video on Reddit from a 2000 New Year’s Party, a guy proudly shows off his brand new $5,000 flat screen TV to friends, leaving them completely stunned.
Around the 1:45 mark of the video, the guy recording remarks “This is a flat screen TV, now I am betting many of you have never seen a flat screen TV before”.
It goes to show how technology has not only advanced rapidly but also become increasingly accessible in the past 20+ years.
Accounting for Inflation
Taking inflation into account, $5,000 in 2000 is equivalent to approximately $8,900 in today’s money. A similar specced TV now costs around $79 in Best Buy.
