Ever felt the need to completely remove Elon Musk from your life? Say no more – the De-Muskifier browser extension has got you covered!
Swedish Redditor jp3dp3 created ‘De-Muskifier’; a browser extension that converts mentions and pictures of Elon Musk/Tesla/SpaceX on the web into pictures of raccoons and fun facts about them!
The extension even includes a special support for X.com -for the people that have not yet migrated to another platform-, ensuring that every post or repost by Musk is similarly replaced. “I’ve tried it myself and it’s almost like you look forward to ‘his‘ posts nowadays,” says jp3dp3.
The raccoon facts were created using ChatGPT, so they may not be 100% true, but that’s still better than the actual misinformation Musk posts. The images are taken from an open dataset that is used to train image recognition models to recognize raccoons.
Initially developed as a funny side project, “De-Muskifier” is not currently available for download. However, jp3dp3 is considering making it available in the future given the community’s response.
The extension is now available for Firefox users. It’s far from perfect though. As the programmer describes,
- It replaces content by keyword search from scanning your active page.
- Sometimes it works “too well” and hides unrelated stuff. Did an article about rocket science vanish? Probably. But did it also get replaced with something wholesome about raccoons? Absolutely.
- The point isn’t perfection – it’s to make you stop thinking about Elon Musk and instead channel your energy into something joyful, like raccoons!
Hopefully this will make the -at least- 4 next years a little bit more tolerable.
